Dear Church Family and Friends:
Think about the words below from the Book of Wisdom. Music would be practically impossible with only one string on a harp or guitar. Oh, I’m sure we could still strum out some sort of one note at a time rhythm, but think of all the wonderful music we would be missing without the use of the remaining strings. If we spend less time being afraid of how different we are from each other and instead, affirm those differences as blessings, then I believe we are on our way to living out God’s will in our lives. God made us to be different, God affirms us in our differences, and God calls us to celebrate the melodies we can make together from our differences. How about in the week to come we celebrate our differences and allow God’s love to shine through them?
"on a harp the notes vary the nature of the rhythm, while each note remains the same. This may be clearly inferred from the sight of what took place." (Wisdom 19:18) (A book in the Apocrypha of the Old Testament)
Here's what's happening around the Harbor:
1. Weekend worship: The Apostle Paul knew how to be contented in all situations. He had a secret on how to be satisfied all the time. In Philippians 4:8-13, we will be challenged to think about whether we are content in all circumstances. Life always has its good times and its bad times. God uses both to transform our lives and purify our faith. Sunday’s sermon will provide clues on how we can learn to be content in all situations.
2. Lenten Devotional Booklet: HUMC will be putting together a devotional booklet this year for Lent. If you would like to write a short devotion to be published in our Lenten booklet, then please do so by this coming Sunday. There is still time to include your favorite scripture passage for this year’s booklet. For more information, or to send your completed devotions, please email Pastor Jenny at j.styers@att.net.
3. Season of Lent: Ash Wednesday service will be held on February 22, at 7:00pm. Please make time to come and begin our time of Lent together this year. The service will be a time of reflection and preparation for the season ahead.
4. Save the date: On Saturday, March 3, from noon to 1:00pm, HUMC has reserved a spot to help support the packaging of meals at Sanctuary. If you are interested in helping to package meals that day, then please contact Laura O’Keefe at djok@pobox.com.
Peace and grace,
